This exhibition explores home what it provides, what it means, and what is lost without it. Selected work from Marie Ayodele’s collection regarding home and homelessness is exhibited during World Homeless Week. This exhibition explores what home gives us safety, belonging, connection, dignity, visibility and what is lost without it. Through intimate paintings of domestic moments and raw portraits of people experiencing homelessness, we examine both truths: what homelessness takes from people, and what home provides.

About the Work

People don’t realise the effects of not having a home, or how people end up without one. This selected work explores both questions. The domestic paintings show what home gives: care, presence, the knowledge that we belong. The older portrait work shows the cost of displacement the vulnerability, the struggle to remain visible and human. Together, they ask: where do we belong?

Artist Statement 

Home is not just a building. It’s being held, being seen, belonging somewhere. It’s safety and connection and the knowledge that you matter. After seven years working in homelessness services, I’ve seen what happens when people don’t have that. I’ve seen the exhaustion, the invisibility, the daily fight to stay human. I’ve also seen people building lives and connections despite everything. This work is about visibility and dignity about seeing people in their fullness, whether they’re in a moment of care at home or on the streets asking to be recognised.
