Celebrate Black History Month with our Black led market.

Brought to you by BIPC Lewisham and Deptford Lounge, this event this will be a celebration of Black entrepreneurship with a chance to connect to local businesses. No need to pre-book, come and browse on the day. Free entry. All welcome.

 The day will be a celebration of Black and global majority entrepreneurship and a chance to connect with local businesses and business support, wherever you are on your business journey. The event will run from 12-7pm at Deptford Lounge with a programme of speakers, panels, one-to-one support, networking, training and information (schedule below). You will have the chance to connect with local Black entrepreneurs, organisations offering business support, our BIPC Lewisham Ambassadors, Business Officers from Lewisham Council, and many more.

Pre-event: 10.30-11.45am – The Top 5 Numbers to Track in Your Business webinar livestreaming in rooms 1&2:’s the webinar will be livestreamed for anyone who has arrived early and wants to have an insightful group coaching session from regular BIPC Lewisham contributor Amit Sodha. Feel free to sit in!

12pm –Welcome: from compere Bayo Igoh and Councillor Edison Huynh

12.15pm – BHL:365 Trailblazers Map: Darnell Bailey and Alice Lemmard introduce the Trailblazers Map, a showcase of some of the most influential members of the borough’s Black community. •

12.30pm – Pancakes and Popularity: How Break the Fast are making brunch for Lewisham: Mayor of Lewisham Business Award 2023 winner Sindi Kayambe talks about Break the Fast’s journey from pop-up to permanent. Bayo will join Sindi in a conversation through the challenges and triumphs of starting and growing a food business in the 21st century.

1.15pm – Digital Finance Mastery: Accountant and financial guru Esther Kyesimira leads a practical seminar on how business owners and individuals can use technology to manage their own accounts and bookkeeping.

2.15pm – Break and short films: buy some goodies at the BHM market and network with other entrepreneurs. If you’d prefer to stay in the meeting rooms, we’ll be screening a selection of short films about influential Black residents of the borough, curated by our BIPC Lewisham ambassadors.

3pm – An Audience with Royston John: business coach and public speaker Royston John talks about the legacy of Windrush, the impact of that mass migration on those who undertook it and those who have come since.

4pm – Break and short films: buy some goodies at the BHM market and network with other entrepreneurs. If you’d prefer to stay in the meeting rooms, we’ll be screening a selection of short films about influential Black residents of the borough, curated by our BIPC Lewisham ambassadors.

4.30pm – Black Women in Wellness: BIPC Lewisham ambassador Jennifer McLean leads a panel discussion with empowerment coach Chantelle Blackman , trichologist Claudine Collins-Hermanstein and personal trainer Jennifer Jacques about their different experiences as Black women in the wellness space.

5.10pm – An Update from Lewisham Council: Mark Berbeck from Lewisham Council’s Economy, Jobs and Partnerships team talks about the support on offer for entrepreneurs and specifically for global majority residents in the borough.

5.40-7pm – Networking, market, food and films: Do some shopping and talk to worthwhile organisations on the BHM market; grab a plate of soul food provided by local restaurant American Bites; catch a short film; make sure to get the contact details of that interesting person you’ve been talking to all afternoon and maybe pick up a book or two? You are in a library, after all.
