What Is Deptford Scratch
Scratch nights are a platform for emerging artists to develop new work. Here, writers have an opportunity to see their work performed by actors in front of a live audience in a low-pressure environment whilst it is still in development.
We are currently looking for writers to take part in our next scratch night which will take place on Thursday 23rd October. This scratch night is specifically for Global Majority* artists.
What We Are Looking For
- Pieces of theatre with a maximum duration of 10 minutes.
- No more than 4 character.
- These can be self-contained or extracts of something you are working on.
- Unfortunately, we will not be able to give feedback but will let you know either way whether your piece has been selected.
- If selected, we hold a pitch night attended by actors from which you can cast your piece. In working this way, we hope to encourage new connections within the industry.
- You will be expected to cast and direct yourself. However, if you would like support with this it’s worth mentioning at the pitch event as you may find someone who is interested in a role other than performing.
- We cannot accept submissions without a script but this does not need to be a final draft.
- Please note tech is minimal so be aware of this.

You will notice we do have some demographic questions. These will not play any role in our decision but are simply there for us to ensure we are reaching as many people as possible and to assess how we may improve this in the future. However, if you do not wish to answer these simply select prefer not to say.
The deadline for submissions is midday Monday 21st July. We will aim to get back to you by Thursday 24th July.
