What Is Deptford Scratch?
Scratch nights are a platform for emerging artists to develop new work. Here, writers have an opportunity to see their work performed by actors in front of a live audience in a low-pressure environment whilst it is still in development.
We are currently looking for writers to take part in our next scratch night following the success of our January one which sold out.
What We Are Looking For?
- Pieces of theatre with a maximum duration of 10 minutes.
- These can be self-contained or extracts of something you are working on.
- Unfortunately, we will not be able to give feedback but will let you know either way whether your piece has been selected.
- If selected, we hold a connection event attended by actors and directors from which you can cast your piece. In working this way, we hope to encourage new connections within the industry.
- You will be expected to cast yourself from those who attend the connection event. This is to ensure that your casting best aligns with your vision.
- You may direct your own work if you choose. However, you will find people at the connection event who are interested in a role other than performing so do mention in your pitch if you are looking to work with a director.
- We cannot accept submissions without a script but this does not need to be a final draft. Please upload this below as a PDF. If you cannot submit a PDF please email us.

You will notice we do have some demographic questions. These will not play any role in our decision but are simply there for us to ensure we are reaching as many people as possible and to assess how we may improve this in the future. However, if you do not wish to answer these simply select prefer not to say.
The deadline for submissions is Wednesday 16th April. We will then work to let you know if you have been selected by Monday 21st April.
