Deptford Lounge is managed by the Albany on behalf of Lewisham Council.
We’ve been at the heart of our local community for over 10 years. Our services and facilities are open to everyone.
Our purpose built venue is located on Giffin Square, just 150m from Deptford Station and 650m from New Cross Station. In the summer, we bring the community together for events on the square, and in winter we are a warm space, welcoming people in for a hot drink and a comfortable space to read, chat or study.
All year round, we hire out our spaces for events, meetings, clubs and sports.

The Albany works in partnership with Lewisham Council to manage Deptford Lounge.
The Albany is South East London’s leading arts centre, offering a programme of theatre, comedy, music, spoken word and much more, situated just across the high street on Douglas Way.
Deptford Lounge also houses a library which is run by the Lewisham Library service, and facilities are shared with Tidemill Academy and Resolution Studios, a complex of apartments and studios.
Meet the Team
The library service is operated by Lewisham council. Occupying the ground floor, it is a warm and inviting place to browse the bookshelves, study, make use of the free wi-fi or relax with a newspaper. We are not a quiet library, so from time to time we also host exhibitions and events in this space.
The children’s library at the far end of the ground floor has hundreds of children’s books, and also hosts events such as our weekly Rhymes and Stories.
The ICT Suite has 9 PCs.

Our building houses meeting rooms, a music room, a dance studio, and even a roof-top ball court, which are all available for hire on a one-off or regular basis, at affordable rates.

Walking down a busy Deptford high street on market day, you can’t miss our striking gold building on Giffin Square.
Designed by architects Pollard Thomas Edwards (PTEa), the building opened in 2012 and has won numerous awards for its architecture, including in the Culture & Community category at the New London Awards 2012.
The design is inspired by local history, with the side of the building along Giffin Street depicting Francis Drake’s ship The Golden Hind – the Elizabethan adventurer set sail to circumnavigate the world in 1577, and when he returned the ship was put on display in Deptford’s dockyards. In turn, the building has inspired our brand, with the logo mirroring the dots and circles on the facade.

Deptford Lounge shares facilities with primary school Tidemill Academy, a two-form entry primary school and nursery.
