We are thrilled to announce that we want to collaborate with an exciting artist to create a captivating decoration for the Deptford Lounge and host engaging workshops for the community for the winter holiday period in December 2024.
The commission fee is set at £1000, covering the artist’s compensation, resources, expenses, materials, and the delivery of up to four workshops, of which two should take place on Saturday 7th and 14th December from 11am, with children aged three and above around the theme of Well Done, Mummy Penguin by Chris Haughton, the Christmas show for children at the Albany.
In using this theme for the decoration of Deptford Lounge coupled with workshops, we hope to seamlessly tie the two venues, the Albany and Deptford Lounge, together, as well help promote the show. More information about the show can be found on the Albany website here, where it was a hit last year.
We have some resources available that you be welcome to use, including festive decorations – a 5ft Christmas tree, several small white Christmas trees and baubles, although we kindly ask for them to be returned at the end.
Additionally, you can utilise all sorts of different areas on the ground floor to decorate. Such as the windows (please note that the windows cannot be blacked out as we still need natural light to flow in), tops of bookcases (it is crucial to emphasise that they are bookshelves that cannot be moved) and any wall space (walls cannot be drilled in to). The possibilities are endless.
We have other potential resources (subject to availability) that may also be suitable for your project, such as mobile TV screen, PA system, please feel free to incorporate sound and video. Alongside our white exhibition board as detailed on the next page.
If you are someone who can think outside the box and is excited and passionate about decorating a community building and library and delivering workshops for young children aged 3-7 during the Christmas season. Bringing the Lounge to life with festive magic, then we are looking for you.

The deadline for submissions is Friday 8th November, with install days on the 1st and 2nd December for the successful candidate.
You will notice we do have some demographic questions. These will not play any role in our decision but are simply there for us to ensure we are reaching as many people as possible and to assess how we may improve this in the future. However, if you do not wish to answer these simply select prefer not to say.
