Age guidance: All welcome
Túi Bí Mật- Secret Pockets is a free, hands-on textile workshop inspired by Thanh Le Dang grandmother’s handmade vest, which she wore when migrating after the Sino-Vietnamese War, with money and gold hidden in its pockets. Participants will be invited to create their own hand-sewn pocket, exploring the things we carry with us — memories, objects, hopes and stories. No sewing experience is needed, and participants can engage as much or as little as they wish.
The workshop offers a relaxed, accessible way for people to connect through making and explore ideas of migration, memory, family and belonging. It is particularly relevant to Deptford’s diverse communities and invites people of all backgrounds to bring their own experiences and perspectives, without needing to share anything personal. Participants will also have the opportunity for their handmade pockets to contribute to a collective exhibition later in the autumn.
