Storytelling with Bernadette Russell

As part of London Children’s Book Swap day, local author Bernadette Russell, our Writer in Deptford and Hothouse Associate Artist, will be bringing in copies of her new book ‘Be The Change Make It Happen’ to swap, plus reading her story ‘The Magic Washing Machine’ – all about how a washing machine helped two kids from Deptford visit the past and the future and also reading ‘The Tiger who came to tea’.

Making Freedom

This exhibition by the Wind-rush Foundation celebrates full emancipation in the Caribbean. On 1 August 1838, liberty was won by nearly a million Africans who had been enslaved for over 200 years. Making Freedom tells the stories of the resulting re-birth of African family life.

Deptford Creek – Photographs 2014-17

Wednesday 31st May – Friday 16th June

Bill Green started this project when he was commissioned to photograph The River Ravensbourne from Deptford to Ladywell for the European River Corridor Improvement Plan (ERCIP) in Spring 2014. The emphasis of this plan is the re-naturalisation of often forgotten urban rivers. He later became very fond of the images he had taken of Deptford Creek and has continued to photograph this scenery, there are photographs taken between 2014 – 2017 featured here.

As part of the Deptford X fringe 2017 Deptford Lounge welcomes artist Chris Francis with his inspired exhibition QUITE! depicting and celebrating the grittiness of the built environment especially one with a manufacturing past. Artists Lilian Nejatpour and Simon Weckert seek to enlighten us with Dumphne, a performance and video piece that is playfully mimicking and exaggerating ways to use tools of a smartphone in various settings around the city of Tehran.
