Deptford Lounge celebrates Black History Month with a programme of talks and a film showing free for all the family to enjoy.
Friday 13th October – African Ancestry: Who Do You Think You Are? – 7pm-9pm
Paul Crooks is a trailblazing genealogist and author of acclaimed novel Ancestors. Paul traced his family back 6 generations to Ami Djaba who was living in the Krobo Mountain, Ghana. Paul’s appearance on Who Do You Think You Are? (Moira Stuart) inspired a generation to start exploring their Black and British ancestry.
Friday 20th October – Music Talk – 7pm-9pm
Prequel to the following week’s showing about the life, music and legacy of Robert Nesta Marley. A librarian’s voyage into Bob Marley’s music via the influence of Mento, the explosion of ska and insurgence into the UK and wider interest into the Rasta philosophy, Roots music and beyond.
Friday 27th October – Film Showing – 6.30pm-9.30pm
Celebration of the life, outlook and philosophy of Robert Nesta Marley in the form of Tuff Gong’s 2012’s acclaimed in-depth biographical documentary. Come early to ensure a seat for this bound to be popular free event.
